How to create a new user    top

Three ways to create a new user

  1. When logging in, click the "Create New User..." button
  2. When switching users, click the "Create New User..." button
  3. Click the menu "User" then select "Create New User..."

When you create a new user you must provide a user name and a password. The password hint is optional.

  • User name - Identifies the user. It must contain 5-20 characters inclusively. No spaces are allowed.
  • Password - Provides security for the user. It must contain 5-20 characters inclusively. No spaces are allowed. The password is case-sensitive which means PasSwoRd is NOT the same as pASsWOrd.
  • Password hint - Helps you to remember your password. This is optional because anyone with access to your computer can see your password hint. Must contain no more than 75 characters.

Two ways to switch users

  1. Click the toolbar icon -->
  2. Click the menu "Users" then select "Switch Users..."

To switch users select the user to switch to, enter the user's password (not necessary if the "Save Password" checkbox is check) and click the "Log In" button.

How to change a user's password    top

To change a user's password click the menu "User" then select "Change Password..."

When you change a user's password you need to provide both the current password and the new password.

How to delete a user    top

To delete a user click the menu "User" then select "Delete User..."

When you delete a user you remove all data (address books, contacts, address lists etc.) for the user. The user's password is needed to delete a user.

User Preferences dialog   top

Two ways to open the User Preferences dialog

  1. Click the toolbar icon -->
  2. Click the menu "Users" then select "User Preferences..."

The User Preferences dialog allows you to customize some aspects of this application. The User Preferences dialog presents 4 tabs: general, color theme, maps and email. Below is an explanation of the items on each tab.

General Tab

  • Sort Individual Contacts By - Allows you to choose how you want the individual contacts sorted. A contact sorted by last name will appear as Doe, John. A contact sorted by first name will appear as John Doe. The default is sort by last name.
  • Event Reminder - Allows you to choose if you want a reminder dialog to be presented when you log in if there are any events (birthdays, anniversaries or custom events) for the upcoming number of days (1  - 30) specified by you. By default, this option is turned on and the number of days is set to 7.
  • Save Password - Allows you to choose if you want Kurlo to save your password for future logins.
  • Startup Tips - Allows you to choose if you want startup tips to appear when you log in. By default, this option is turned on.

Color Tab

  • Color Theme - Allows you to choose the color to use for the main window's background and for buttons and combo boxes used by dialog windows. There are 8 pre-defined colors that you can choose from or you can click the "Custom.." button to select a color of your choice. The default is gray (1st color).

Maps Tab

  • Map Provider - Select either Mapquest or Yahoo! Maps to view maps and driving directions. Mapquest is the default selection.
  • Links to Show - Select to show the "Map" link, "Driving Directions" link, both or neither. If you select to show the "Driving Directions" link you must also provide the starting location address. The starting location address is used as the starting point and the address next to the "Driving Directions" link you click is used as the ending point.

Email Tab

  • Waiting Messages - Allows you to chose what should be done with waiting messages when you log in. At login, if there are no waiting messages with a send date on or before the current date no action will be taken. There are 3 options to choose from. Option 1 (the default) presents a dialog asking if you want to send the waiting messages with a send date on or before the current date. Option 2 automatically sends the waiting messages with a send date on or before the current date. Option 3 leaves the sending of waiting messages up to you.
  • Default Email Application - When this option is turned on your default email application open up when you click a contact's email address. By default, this option is turned off.
